Want to ride your horse on a public riding trail made for horses in Loudoun County? Horseback riding on the W&OD Trail (Washington & Old Dominion) Trail is great fun for horse and rider alike in Loudoun County:
- In Ashburn the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority has a 40-car parking lot near Mile Marker 27.5 for W&OD Trail enthusiasts located across from Partlows Brothers Store, on the west side of the trail at Ashburn Road.
- Leesburg access to the W&OD trail with parking is behind the picnic area of the Douglass Community Center, off Sycolin Road.
- Western Leesburg access to the trail is located near the Loudoun County High School on Catoctin Circle. Weekend Parking Only is allowed in the High School parking lot during the school year. Riders are asked to clean up after their horses in the Loudoun County High School parking lot.
- In Purcellville exit Route 7 West Bypass at Route 287 (Berlin Turnpike) turn left. Then turn right on Hirst Road, left on Maple Street, then park in the Loudoun Valley High School parking lot. Again, only weekend parking is allowed during the school year. And again, riders must clean up after their horses in the parking lot.

Thanks to the Friends of the Washington and Old Dominion Trail (Railroad Regional Park), “FOWOD”–a volunteer organization established in 1991 for the benefit of supporting and promoting the recreational, environmental and historic resources of the Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park, the trail is accessible to the public, both for walking, biking and horseback riding. The Horse Riding Trail is dirt and gravel and located alongside the paved walk and bike trail. For more information about the W&OD Trail.
